The Genomia Fund is a seed and pre-seed fund which seeks to provide modest amounts of pump-priming funds to support emerging technologies and to help kick start the process of   bringing new, emerging technologies to market

Fund Overview

The Fund’s Activities

Genomia provides a programme of investment options aimed at technology and business development and tailored to address the different stages along the research to commercial realisation continuum. The programme targets a consortium of Public Sector Research Establishments engaged in animal health and life sciences

Investment Strands

Genomia’s Investment Programme has three strands addressing

  • technology and business opportunity assessment,
  • development of the technology and business model
  • implementation of commercialisation strategy

Each is intended to target discrete stages in the processes of moving propositions through from the early point where a concept has still to be proven to having some validity to the stage where enough credibility has been generated to encourage third parties to invest, or to license the technology.

Strategies and Operating Principles

The strategy adopted by the Genomia Fund is to provide pump-priming funds :

  • To address the first needs of the new start-up or spin-out company emerging from the research base represented by the members of the consortium; and
  • recognising that not all researchers wish to set up companies and that licensing may frequently a more appropriate route to securing commercialisation of a new technology, to support projects aimed at strengthening an IP portfolio to improve licensing prospects, or the value of the consideration attaching to a licensing agreement; and
  • to provide an ongoing level of assistance from knowledgeable practitioners able to guide the principals through the development of their business models and plans.
